THE EFFERVESCENT LIFE OF A BEAUTY INFLUENCER!
My name is Charlotte Wilson, and I am trying to make a name for myself in the beauty industry. Ever since I was about 7 years old, I have been in awe of makeup and everything it can do to enhance a person’s self-esteem and her confidence with it.
I used to watch my mum do her makeup every day. The way she used to put on the foundation would cover any blemishes she had, not that there were many. My mother is still the most beautiful and elegant lady, I know. However, even, her makeup regime made her look all the more exquisite like she was an angel that had just landed on earth. From the mascara to the lipstick, I loved everything on her.
Sundays were my favorite as a child because then she would put some of her makeup goodness on my sister and me. And we would boast the dopiest of smiles on our faces.
THE BEGINNING
At the age of 12, I knew for sure that I would make a career through makeup. There would be no alternative for me. As I discovered the world of YouTube, my passion for beauty became all the more intense. By then, I had entered my adolescence and had started to wear makeup every day to school.
Of course, then all the makeup I had either belonged to my sister or my mum. Slowly as time went on, my experiments with making became more courageous. I went from just wearing sunscreen, kohl, and lip-gloss to a full-blown makeup routine including bold and colorful eye shadows.
When I graduated from high school, I took up an internship under a famous makeup artist in London and learned all the skills I lacked previously. Now, my professional career had just about kick-started.
THE SUCCESS
There were plenty of obstacles that I had to overcome to have the slightest taste of success. In the earlier years of my career, I had even done free party makeup to get my name out there.
Watching beauty influencers like Mitchell, Jeffery Star, and Nikkie Tutorials used to give me my daily dose of makeup. More than half of what I know today is dedicated to them. I wanted to look like them, dress like them and start a YouTube channel like them, so, one day I finally did.
Now my channel has over 500K followers, and I pray to God they keep on rising. The income I get through ads is enough to cover all my expenses and some of my makeup. The rest of it, I get through PR packages. That is the perk of being in the beauty world.
WHAT’S THE TEA IN THE PRESENT?
Right now, my life is just about perfect. I get up every day, go to the gym, film in my studio, think of new ideas to film in the studio, think of ways to renovate the studio and how to shoot the next video in the same studio. 90% of my life is concentrated in and around my STUDIO. That room is my safe place. Whenever I am feeling happy, sad, depressed or just thankful, I go there, and solace engulfs me. It may sound strange, but it is true.
Some people have a person in their lives who brings them at peace, in my case that is not a person but my studio, which appeases me every time I enter inside.
Coming to my recent projects, a lot is going on in my life. For one, I have decided to renovate my haven and make it more substantial and more beautiful. It is still a big room, but most of my makeup is cluttered, and I can’t seem to find anything when I am searching for it. I’ll be changing everything, from the flooring to the lighting, and even upgrade my camera equipment. I’m also thinking of adding a huge and comfortable sofa and recliner set in the room.
All of this is going to cost me heavy, and I don’t want to dip into my savings, so I have applied for one of those self-employed loans, that too online which was very convenient.
Apart from this significant change in my life, I have also gotten myself a companion. I’ll be going to pick him up the next week. He is a golden retriever pup that I fell in love with when I saw him at the animal shelter. #adoptnotshop, right?. I can’t wait to have him home.
Being in the makeup industry is everything I imagined it was going to be. I love that the work I do affects people. A lot of men and women consider makeup to be a superficial and unneeded accessory. But it is more than that, and it can change the way a person looks at himself. Its power is immensely underestimated.
