Plasma therapy not effective in reducing mortality AIIMS studies 30 patients
AIIMS Delhi has found in a trial that plasma therapy is not effective in reducing corona mortality. AIIMS has estimated this based on tests conducted on 30 patients. Doctors found that there is no benefit in terms of mortality, but a large study showed an improvement in the likelihood of survival from therapy.
These days, a lot of emphasis is being given on the treatment of infected people by taking plasma from the body of those who are cured of corona. But now this study of AIIMS can undermine people’s expectations.
The doctors said that you would not know that you are very sick. But then if someone comes in contact with corona positive person then he should go for the test. People should also not forget that they should use oximeter on the advice of doctors.
AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria said that this is a preliminary analysis. There were two groups of 15 patients who underwent a test to find out the effectiveness of plasma therapy. One group was given normal treatment, while the other was given plasma in addition to normal treatment.
Dr. Randeep Guleria said that in the test we found that the mortality rate was similar in both the groups. There were not many benefits to the patients. He further said that we still need more evidence to conclude anything. Current tests show that plasma therapy is safe. There is no harm to any patient by this. But at the same time it is not very effective.
Plasma taken from the body of patients who have been cured of corona is put in the body of active patients of corona. This creates antibodies to fight the corona in that patient’s body.
Plasma therapy is not only being used in India to treat corona, but is also being used in many other countries of the world. Apart from India, it is being used in many countries including America, Spain, South Korea.

New cases are coming to Bangalore at the same pace. Since July 16, more than 2,000 cases are being filed here every day, while the peak of Hyderabad ended and then cases started coming down in a few days. New cases continued to increase in Hyderabad till July 8, after which the decrease started and the decline continues.
From the middle of July, the two states went on separate tracks. Since June 24, more new cases were coming from Telangana than Karnataka, but in just two weeks the graph here started coming down, while the cases in Karnataka kept increasing. As of August 2, a total of 66,677 cases were registered in Telangana, while in Karnataka the total cases stood at 1,34,819.
In Telangana, the number of new cases increased much faster than the national average between the end of June and early July, but by the last week of July, it started showing up. As of August 2, cases were doubling every 23 days in Telangana, which was higher than the national average of 21 days, but cases in Karnataka are increasing more rapidly. Cases are doubling every 14 days here.
Telangana is doing much less test than Karnataka. However, it has increased the number of tests per day. Also, the positivity rate of Telangana was the highest in the country, but suddenly came down, whereas in Karnataka it is continuously increasing.
Overall, Telangana has done less than 5 lakh tests. This is only one third of the total test of Karnataka. Telangana has tested less than 13,000 people per 10 lakh people, while Karnataka has done more than 21,000 tests per 10 lakh people.
However, one major difference between Karnataka and Telangana is that of transparency. Karnataka releases data on new cases, deaths and tests district-wise every day, whereas Telangana releases district-wise data of new cases every day, not data on deaths and tests. Therefore it is impossible to say whether the case number of Hyderabad has been affected by the low test or not.

Apart from this, Telangana also does not release details of how many antigen tests are in its test number and how many RT-PCR tests are there. This is an important fact because antigen tests are less sensitive and the negative report that comes through it is more likely to go wrong. On the other hand, Karnataka has said that 14 percent of its total test numbers are antigen tests.
Can these facts affect the falling number of Telangana? Without the right information about these facts, the truth of Telangana’s ‘success’ cannot be revealed.
