What is Christmas season tree Lights?

  1. Some people use strings of lights during the Christmas season to decorate the Christmas tree in the living room or to light up the roof of the house to celebrate a joyous time.
  2. Others use strip lights to give their homes a modern and hip flair by placing them along the cornice or tracing the vertical part of the steps of a staircase or backlighting drawers.
  3. LED light strips do not consume much electricity compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. Consumption depends directly on the length of the strip light and its luminance. A standard 5-meter light strip costs less than $3 per year on average.
  4. It has been shown that electricity consumption during the lifetime of a single light bulb costs 5-10 times the original purchase price of the bulb.
  5. Because of their inefficiency, most countries such as Australia, China, Japan and India have banned or phased out incandescent bulbs.
  6. This decision was made in an effort to reduce national energy consumption.

Advantages of LED Lights

  1. Even if you don’t live in a country that has banned incandescent bulbs, you should definitely switch to LED bulbs.
  2. LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs have many advantages that make them a great choice.
  3. For one, they last much longer (15,000 – 50,000 hours) than incandescent bulbs (700 – 1,000 hours).
  4. If you were to use LED bulbs 10 hours a day, they could last well over 10 years!
  5. Incandescent bulbs, by comparison, only last 100 days.
  6. There is a third option, which is compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). However, this is only a small improvement over incandescent bulbs. CFLs have a lifespan of up to 10,000 hours – a huge leap compared to incandescent bulbs, but LED bulbs are superior to them in lifespan and other areas.
  7. LED lamps are long-lasting because they don’t use a filament. They are much more forgiving of drops or impacts.
  8. LED lamps do not contain mercury, which is usually found in CFL bulbs, which are highly toxic. When a CFL bulb breaks, mercury is released into the air and can be a hazard.
  9. I know I was talking about general incandescent bulbs, but the bottom line is that the same characteristics apply to LED strip lights.
  10. Another main advantage of LED lights, including strip lights, is that LED lights don’t get extremely hot. So you don’t have to worry about your Christmas tree ornaments burning down your house.
  11. And as you’ll see in the next sections, LED light bulbs are also extremely efficient, making them great for saving energy and lowering the cost of your bills.

Is LED Lights Use a Lot of Electricity?

  1. Now you know how LED light bulbs can save you money because you’ll have to buy fewer bulbs over time.
  2. But what about the energy cost of screwing one of these bulbs into the ceiling of your home?
  3. The power consumption of a light bulb is measured in kWh. An LED light bulb consumes 127.5 kWh during its 15,000-hour life. An incandescent bulb consumes 900 kWh of electricity over its 15,000-hour life (theoretically; an incandescent bulb cannot last that long).
  4. The cost of electricity per kWh depends on the region where you live. The average in the U.S. is 13 cents per hour.
  5. So at this rate, the electricity cost for an LED bulb is only $16.58, while an incandescent bulb would cost $117 – almost seven times as much on your electric bill!

How much electricity does an LED strip light consume?

  1. So we have established that an LED bulb does not consume much electricity compared to older technologies. But what about strip lights? Here there are two things to consider: the power consumption of the strip and its length. Power consumption is measured in watts per meter and depends on several factors.
  2. First, the density of the lights. A standard density LED strip typically has 30 diodes per meter. At high density, it’s probably 60 or 120 diodes over the same length, although some have many more.
  3. And then there’s the size of the diodes. This is usually a four-digit number that simply describes the width and height of the diode. 3528 diodes (35mm wide, 28mm high) generally draw less current than a 5050 light strip, but they are not as bright.
  4. Thus, a high-density 3528 strip may have a higher power consumption than a standard-density 5050 strip. Power consumption should be listed on the package or website when you purchase your strip lights – look for W/m (watts per meter) or W/f (watts per foot).
  5. Another specification is lumens per meter or lumens per foot. This tells you the brightness of the strip. A good quality strip will provide about 1500 lumens per meter.
  6. But don’t assume that fewer lumens per meter mean less power consumption – that may very well be the case. However, some diodes are more efficient than others, so they can be brighter without increasing the power required.
  7. And then there is the length of the strip. Knowing that power is measured in watts per meter, means that the more meters a strip have, the more watts it needs to operate. A 1.3 W/m band consumes 6.5 watts for a 5-meter band, but 13 watts for a 10-meter version.

Do connected strip lights consume more power?

  1. Simply put: yes, if you connect more light strips to a circuit, the power consumption increases. Energy consumption is measured in meters. So the more meters you connect, the more you consume.
  2. Remember that it is always important to use the same light strips one after the other – don’t mix up the power consumption as this is dangerous.

How long can the LED strips be left on?

  1. An LED light strip can theoretically be left on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but I don’t recommend it.
  2. It would cost less than an incandescent lamp, but it would seriously affect the life of the transformer.
  3. A transformer would have a longer life if it had time to cool down between uses.
  4. So if you only use your strip lights for 5 hours a day, your transformer will last much longer.
  5. You should also consider heat dissipation. The longer you leave a strip light on, the more heat it generates.
  6. If you want to leave a strip light on for an extended period of time, such as 24 hours a day, you need to install a proper heat sink, especially if the strip light is in an unventilated room.
