In this article I am going to tell you about how to set your tent when you are out in the nature, camping.
As I mentioned you earlier, you can hardly ever get the same camping experience and variables twice. Therefore, every time you do outdoor camping you have different things to consider.
Now few things to clarify before we hit nature…
You need to think about the possible difficulties like: the terrain, the climate, the altitude.
Luckily, thanks to the internet nowadays, everything is accessible online and you can easily do the search on your own upfront.
Below I mention perhaps the most important things to consider before you leave home with regards to your tent.
Climate
- If chances are you will be caught in rain then you may want to get an extra cover (sheet) to the tent from water damage.
- If you have a sensitive (non UV protective) tent as far as strong sun light goes then the same cover could work just fine to stretch the longevity of your tent’s life.
- If snow is what you must be taking into account, then a shovel will come handy.
- Windy and exposed terrain will require you to get some extra threads and spikes to give extra support to your camping gear.
Terrain
- If you are heading out with your backpack to the desert then a dust brush is a must for the sand.
- If the surface is full of rotten leaves, little stones and other object that are detrimental to your tent then the previously mentioned ground sheet is the thing you want to have in your backpack.
Tent Pitching
Alright now finally you have walked enough, hiked enough, explored and experienced enough for the day. Time to call it a day and pitch your tent.
If you are in a meadow where you are protected from the wind by the forest nearby and lush vegetation gives you a smooth cover, which most likely happens to be completely or at least nearly flat surface.
Once the tent is stretched then you just hammer the spikes deep enough in the ground to give a solid fix to the tent.
Tighten the threads to make sure wind cannot damage and rain soaks the cover of your tent.
If the surface is rocky then you basically two options:
- find a huge, relatively flat rock which is wide and long enough to sleep on it and can be a place for your tent without the edges cutting through the tent’s bottom;
- throw the rocks, stones out of the way to clear out a small place, which is relatively flat and no sharp edges poking out from the ground making your sleep impossible and most likely your tent will get punched through by.
