Wooden flooring is a great way to create a unique look in any room in your home. Not only is it easy to maintain, but it’s also very durable looking. The biggest problem with this type of flooring though is that it’s not a very easy thing to install.
It can be very difficult to install a hard flooring system like this that’s not nailed down, unless you have someone to help you. Most people are too intimidated to try because of the potential difficulty involved. I can tell you from experience though that installing wooden flooring can be a lot easier than many people think.
There are certain things you can do on your own that will make your task much easier. One of the best tips I can give is to consider making sure you have some measuring tools and a tape measure before you begin. Measure out the length of the room where you want the flooring to go as well as the width. Make sure you have everything square before you begin so that you can get a better idea of how big the room is before you start cutting.
After you’ve done this you should take the flooring out of the box and set it aside until you’re ready to do something with it. This could be a temporary project or it could be an actual permanent installation. If you’re going to install it yourself then it would be better to take it out of the box when you’ve finished measuring so that you know exactly how long your piece will be.
The next step is to find the right place to start cutting. I would recommend starting at the edge of the wall where you’ll be putting the ceiling. Cut about an inch or two off the edge of the floor at this point. You’ll want to be sure to leave enough of a cut so that you’re able to hang the flooring over the edge of the wall. Now take the floor you cut off and run it under hot water to remove any dust particles that might have gotten stuck in the cut. When you’re done you should have a smooth surface that you can put a piece of raggedy material onto. You may want to get a few good pieces of raggedy material that will go over the top of the flooring before you attach it to the floor.
Once you have a good material down you can start to make the joint. The goal is to make sure that the wood is perfectly square with the joint before you attach it to the floor. Once you have this piece of the flooring in place, it will all need to be joined in order to create a nice floor finish.
This step can be very frustrating but it doesn’t have to be if you follow the instructions carefully. Once you get this far it shouldn’t be too difficult. Happy finishing!
