Perform Umrah at least in a lifetime

But, before booking an Umrah Package, you must have to know about the history, Struggles, & Importance of performing Umrah. Let’s have a look at these points mentioned below.

The 1st Umrah took place in 629 CE when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his 2000 followers embarked on their journey. The 1st Umrah was performed after so many struggles, negotiations, & even sacrifices by faithful Muslims.

However, according to traditional Muslim accounts, Muslims were not given the right to perform the Hajj & Umrah, as well as access to the holy sites of Makkah. During that time, Makkah was occupied by Arab Pagans who praised idols inside it.

According to these accounts, Muslims through the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) era wished to gain access to Makkah in order to perform Hajj and Umrah, as prescribed by the Quran. Let us delve a little deeper into the history of this Islamic pilgrimage, as well as the sacrifices and struggles that it entailed.

The Religious & Spiritual History of Umrah

The history of Umrah begins in 622 CE, when Muslims from Makkah, led by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), moved to Madinah to avoid oppression by non-believers, Arab Pagans, and the city authorities. On September 24, 622 CE, Prophet Muhammad accomplished his Hijrah (the journey from Makkah to Madinah), which signifies the beginning of the Year 1 of the Islamic Calendar. However, the Muslims’ deepest desire is to perform Umrah and visit their homeland.

The conflict between the Pagans who occupied Makkah and the Muslims who wanted to perform pilgrimages reached a peak in 628 CE.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his 1400 followers approached Makkah after being inspired by a dream in which he was performing Umrah rituals. When the occupants of Makkah heard that a large group of Muslims was approaching the city, they were afraid that the Muslims intended to attack Makkah and its inhabitants.

When Prophet Muhammad reached the outskirts of Makkah. He sent an ally to the people of Makkah to address their issues and explain that they only intended to perform Umrah. And return peacefully. They were stopped at Hudaybiyyah when Qurayshites refused them entry and told them to come the next year to perform Umrah.

Diplomatic negotiations

Diplomatic negotiations took place after Prophet Muhammad refused to invade Makkah by force out of dignity & respect for the sacred Kaaba.

The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, which specified 10 years of no hostilities and allowed Muslims 3 days per year access to the sacred site of Kaaba, was the result of these negotiations. So, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions had to return home without performing Umrah.

The next year, in 629 CE, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his 2000 companions performed the 1st Umrah while complying with the Hudaybiyyah treaty’s terms. The first Umrah took three days to complete.

The peace treaty, however, was broken within 2 years when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his true believers were attacked by Makkan allied forces, causing the deaths of some Muslims. Because the treaty’s main purpose was to avoid bloodshed, Muhammad denounced it after the murders.

Muslims had emerged into a powerful force by that time. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) commanded and led the conquest of Makkah in 630 CE. He led an army of about 10,000 Muslims towards Makkah, and the Makkan leaders surrendered. Muhammad (PBUH) forgave the inhabitants of Makkah who had mistreated and fought the early Muslims before the transfer of sovereignty. The victory is known as the “Succession of Makkah.”

It is Necessary to Know About the Importance of performing Umrah

The fact that Umrah’s history is full of religious struggles and battles demonstrates that Umrah has always been a significant pilgrimage.

It is a direct Sunnah of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is frequently referred to as a divine. “quick-fix” for those who are unable to perform the Hajj pilgrimage for whatever reason. It is true that performing Umrah removes all sins and purifies the mind, body, as well as spirit.
