Super Easy Ways to Handle Your Extra Central Heating

Your central heating is one of your most important systems that works hard to keep your house warm when cooler weather takes hold. However, many of us do not give it a second thought until it develops a problem.

A well-maintained central heating system can operate its best efficiency all year long and help you make great savings on your heating bills.

It has been show that a well-maintained system can help you save ten percent on your energy consumption.

Here are some important tips that will keep your central heating system in top shape, increase its life expectancy and maximize its energy efficiency.

Regularly Clean Your System

The build-up of magnetite, also known as ‘black sludge’, is responsible for making your system less efficient and put it at an increased risk of failure. As a result of the build-up, the radiators of the system often suffer from cold spots which make the entire system inefficient.

It  highly recommended to cleanse your system using chemicals as they break down and wash away any debris that may have been accumulated in your system.

Regularly Flush Your Boiler

Regular system flushing of your heating system is important to wipe away the contaminated water. Clean your radiators and boilers to remove any debris before refilling the system with fresh water.

Keep Tabs on Your Radiators

Over time, air  trapped in your radiators, which often prevent them from heating up at the full capacity and there can be cold patches between them. Bleeding your radiators is an effective way to release this air and bring down the likelihood of these cold patches.

Additionally, it is important to make sure that there is the right balance between the radiators away from the boiler and those near it for your system to work at its absolute best.

Make Sure the Boiler isn’t Too Cluttered

Your boiler requires a lot of room for proper ventilation. Therefore, it is important to make sure that coats aren’t hanging over your boiler and making it cluttered.

Maintain the Correct Pressure

Over the time, your boiler may lose pressure that may affect its efficiency. Therefore, it is imperative to make sure that the regular operating pressure is always right. Ideally, it should be ranged 1.2 and 1.5 bars. If your water pressure is high, remove some radiators to bring it down.

If the pressure is too low, you can allow more water to reach the heating circuit to increase it by slightly opening the tap.

Blue Flame Should Be Strong

Make sure that the flame of your boiler is strong and blue. If it appears smoky or yellowish, odds are high that either the burner is not efficient or the system is producing excessive amounts of carbon monoxide. In this case, reach out to a licensed and certified HVAC expert for an inspection and repair.
