Going to a Bike Adventure
Add cycling to your Ottawa summer list. We are lucky to have so many amazing bike trails in Ottawa. Here are some of my favorite routes:
- The Ottawa River Trail will take you along the water below Parliament
- The Voyageur Pathway will take you to the river in front of the Canadian Museum of History.
- Rideau canal toward Dow Lake.
- Rideau canal to Major’s Hill Park
- Through the Arboretum
- Rockliffe Park and Aviation Road. Go down towards the water from the trail and you will be able to ride on a gravel road near the water
Don’t have a bike? You can rent from Escape Tours and Rentals. They also have tours and can take you to Ottawa’s top attractions.

It is a perfect activity of social isolation. I drove in early summer and felt great. We have many entrances near Ottawa where we watch movies and give concerts. Stop at the Beach
One of my favorite things to do in Ottawa in the summer is swimming. We have many beaches throughout the capital, including one that you can bring your dog with, and several beaches with wheelchairs.

Spend a Day on Elgin Street
Don’t let construction scare you, all businesses are still operating on Elgin Street and we really appreciate that on-site shopping. There are endless restaurants, cafes, unique shops, and terraces. Some of my favorite lunch spots in town are The Manx and Citizen. Grab games or magazines from The Gifted Type and take part in a Pot and Pantry picnic and head to a nearby park to sunbathe! Go back and end the night on one of the many terraces!
Take a Trip to Burgers and Brewers
Located just off Ottawa, the Ontario Highlands are perfect for a day trip or a trip where you can see everything from great views, snacks, snacks and more. Sometimes it is the stops along the way that become the most memorable part of the trip. From high-end breweries and essential burgers, this blog post will celebrate everything you’ll find if you let your taste buds run.
Investigate a Quebec Country
We are very lucky to be able to get to Quebec quickly. There is so much to explore from this umbrella setup, restaurants, adventure activities, stunning views, and more. Explore Outaouais with this summer to-do list.
See How the Sun Judges at Ottawa Curtains
This is my favorite place in Ottawa to watch the sunset. Sit so quiet here and listen to the running water of the sluices, watching the colors dance through the water. It is a must every summer. On the right you will find two red Muskoka chairs. Try them early to see the best sunset. They are from Canadian parks and can be found in all national parks and sites.

Spend the afternoon and see all the frescoes in Glebe. You will find it in the bank and in the fourth. I took this Dreamsicle Dipped Cone Dairy Queen in Old South Ottawa and started looking for the frescoes. See how many you can find Good places to find murals:
- Bank Street: Start from the center of the Bank and to Glebe, where you will find many frescoes.
- Vanier
- Westboro
- Side market
Spend a Day by the Water
Spend the day on the water. There are some incredible views around Ottawa that you can experience while kayaking, canoeing, or paddling.

Do Not Berry
Go to a local farm to pick strawberries, raspberries, and/or blueberries. Check out my guide on where to go for berries here.
Start a Day Examination in the Areas of Ottawa
Here’s one of my favorite ways to explore a few areas a day. Start at Byward Market, go down Elgin, then down Somerset towards Chinatown, Lesser Italy, and Hintonburg! You will find so many great little shops, restaurants, cafes and more. I follow this route quite often and is always great looking for new gems.
Spend the Cruise on the Boat
When traveling by boat, you will see a unique view of the Ottawa River. The Ottawa Boat Cruise offers many tours and is a great way to enjoy a day exploring the summer.
Go on the Road
So many places near Ottawa, that you can easily go on a weekend (or longer). Here is a guide to my travel guide nearby. This summer, I had the opportunity to explore St. John, and be sure to put him on your Canadian bucket list. It is a great combination of urban and natural adventures.
Visit This Picture Review
If you want to drive a little outside the city, head to Calabogie for the Eagles Nest Lookout. An incredible view will open from above. This is on my personal list. Looking for something closer? Park the Champlain Observation Deck in Gatineau Park (amazing view) and then hike the Wolf Trail to see this amazing view from the Tawadina Observation Deck.
Start With a Rich Pedal
These pedal-driven bars will take you to several places on a unique bike. The group will work together to deliver this fully pedal-driven bike to different locations in your bar. Turn the pedals down the bank street and stop at the CRAFT beer market, Clocktower Brew Pub, and Banditos. Each cooking station lasts 20-25 minutes.
Visit the Local Wine Farm
Ottawa is surrounded by more than 10 local wineries. Go for a wine tasting and find a new favorite bottle.
